DANCER IN THE DARK

The show is the only authorized theatrical adaptation for the film work of Danish filmmaker Lars Von Trier, winner of the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2000. The protagonist Björk also took the best actress trophy at the festival. Her songs include the film, most notably Grammy-nominated and Oscar-nominated "I've Seen It All."

In Brazil, the theatrical adaptation gains direction of actress and director Dani Barros (from "Estamira").

In 2017, the musical made seasons praised at SESC Ginastico, SESI, UFF Theater and OI Casa Grande, earning the Botequim Cultural Award for best actress for Juliane Bodini.

SYNOPSIS

The story takes place in 1964 in the United States. Selma Jezková is a Czech immigrant who moves to the US with her son Gene, a twelve-year-old boy. She has a hereditary degenerative disease that causes her to ask for vision, something that will also happen to her child. Knowing that there are doctors in the US who can operate Gene, it was enough to make her immigrate to the country. Selma rents a trailer on the property of Bill and his wife Linda, his neighbors, where he lives humbly. She works exhaustively in a factory with her best friend Carmen and keeps everything she earns for surgery to prevent her son from suffering the same fate. But when Bill finds himself in financial trouble, he steals the money Selma had saved hard. Theft is the starting point for tragic events.
